Why is fiber so important?

Fiber is the single most important component of any weightloss program. Fiber helps to stabilize blood sugar by slowing down the movement of food from the stomach to the small intestine which can aid diabetics. Dietary fiber can be found in fruits, grains and vegetables. Most of the foods that add to your waistline contain zero fiber, including; processed packaged foods like bread, pasta and cereal, meats, dairy poducts and sugar laden sweets. Fiber also helps rid the body of waist from the digestive tract and assist in the removal of fat from the bloodstream, thereby reducing blood pressure. Make sure you consume 25-30 grams every day, the American Cancer Society recommends at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
